Motion Capture – University of Canberra

As my capstone university project, I created, choreographed, produced, performed and animated a musical theatre piece using the following software and process:

  • Set up Motive Motion Capture studio and recorded the required movements.
  • Edited raw motion capture data in Motive and linked various clips together.
  • Booked equipment and organised assistance to film live portion of the video.
  • Used Maya to apply the motion captured animation to a rig, using skin painting tools for a clean application. Added cameras, lighting and other effects to the scene to match my reference footage.
  • Took rendered animation and added to the live recording using After Effects. Added further effects to create cohesive final product.

As part of the project, I documented my challenges and successes via Instagram which can be found here.

Below is a side by side comparison of a sequence from recording to animation.
